PMPC Application Packaging (Patch My PC) Consultant - October 2025

Düsseldorf, Germany
For one of our clients in the FMCG industry we’re looking for a freelance PMPC Application Packaging (Patch My PC) Consultant:

Project description
The service is requested as part of the ongoing project “NXT” (Modernisation of Windows device management via Microsoft Intune), where the PMPC Packaging is part of. The project has the purpose rolling out fully cloud managed Autopilot devices globally.

PMPC is used for packaging and application deployment to clients. We have a substantial backlog of application packaging requests, with majority not available in PMPC App Catalogue, needing manual packaging efforts either in PMPC or via Advanced Installer to create .msi installers.

These installers need to be tested, some PowerShell scripting requirements to ensure installations succeed with detection rules, clean uninstallations, support and re-work in case needed during UAT for completion/fulfilment.

All packaging demands are raised as requests, and efforts to be tracked / updated within ServiceNow ticketing process.

The service of the external contractor is delivered within the framework of an agile working method.

Project background
An external specialist is necessary for certain parts of the project because the required expertise is not available internally. Therefore the external contractor has a unique position compared to the client's internal project staff and provides significantly different services than the internal staff.

Task description:
The services shall be provided within the framework of an instruction-free agile development method. The concrete activities required in each case to implement the services commissioned shall be agreed iteratively between the parties within the framework of sprint meetings and implemented by the Contractor within the respective sprints following the sprint meetings. Prior to each sprint meeting, the contractor shall independently check, on the basis of their professional expertise, which individual services are reasonable and feasible within the scope of the assignment in the respective sprint.

The sprints each have a duration of 1 week, so that the sprint meetings take place at intervals of 3 times per week. Within the individual sprints, the contracting parties shall coordinate the respective technical requirements for the services to be provided in daily meetings. The technical requirements for the services to be provided are assessed by the Contractor on the basis of its own technical assessment. After completion of a Sprint, the Parties shall conduct a "Sprint Review'' in which the Contractor reports on the feasibility and status of the services performed by it in the previous Sprint and makes a recommendation on how to proceed with regard to the services that proved to be unfeasible in the respective Sprint. All of the meetings and exchanges described above shall take place exclusively in the presence of a central contact person named by us, who shall coordinate the project on our internal side. The organisation and scheduling of the meetings described above in which the Contractor is involved shall be organised and carried out by the Contractor and coordinated with us.

During these meetings, the team discusses the current requirements and the contractor independently performs the following tasks:
  1. Technical Consultation and Expertise
  • Provision of specialized consultation services leveraging deep knowledge and hands-on experience in Windows application packaging, Patch My PC (PMPC) and Advanced Installer.
  • Identification of potential packaging challenges, and recommendation of optimized solutions.
  1. Independent Custom Application Packaging
  • Taking ownership of packaging requests from the defined application packaging backlog
  • Independently designing, building, and configuration of custom application packages using PMPC and Advanced Installer in line with agreed specifications and standards.
  1. Application Testing & UAT Coordination
  • Conducting thorough functional testing of packaged applications prior to handover for User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Preparation and maintenance of testing documentation in ServiceNow ticketing process for the validation of performance, installation, uninstallation, and upgrade scenarios.
  • Facilitating of UAT by providing technical insights, troubleshooting, and guidance to stakeholders conducting acceptance testing.
  1. Corrective Measures & Continuous Improvement
  • In case of failed UAT, analysis of root causes, adapting of packaging strategies, and implementation of corrective measures to meet functional requirements
  • Updating of packaging documentation, version history, and configuration notes for transparency and maintainability.
  1. Deliverables & Accountability
  • Delivery of fully tested, UAT-approved, production-ready application packages according to the backlog priorities.
  • Maintenance of clear documentation for each application package, covering build steps, testing results, and deployment notes.
The service provision of the contractor has the goal to support in packaging custom applications together with global Workplace Client team, in the area of application packaging and closure of the backlog.
The service provision of the contractor has the goal to package all open packaging requests, closing the backlog at best effort.
