For one of our clients in the utilities industry we’re looking for a freelance Project Manager with Azure experience:

Project description

The client’s Connectivity team have undertaken analysis of the environment and, with the strategic aim of deploying a modern, zero-trust compliant network architecture, we require a project manager to deliver the changes. This is a new project and phase 1 to establish the new central infrastructure within Azure is expected to take 9 months, until the end of 2022. Phase 2 will be established in 2023 to migrate applications and services into this new VWAN and micro-segmented approach.

Task description:  

The services shall be provided within the framework of an agile methodology. The concrete activities required in each case to implement the services commissioned shall be agreed iteratively between the parties within the framework of sprint meetings and implemented by the consultant within the respective sprints following the sprint meetings. Prior to each sprint meeting, the consultant shall independently check, on the basis of its professional expertise, which individual services are reasonable and feasible within the scope of the assignment in the respective sprint. The sprints each have a duration of 2 weeks, so that the sprint meetings take place at intervals of 2 weeks. The organization and scheduling of the meetings described above in which the consultant is involved shall be organized and carried out by the consultant and coordinated with the client.
Role: Project Manager
  • Consult application and service teams on the usage of the Azure networks and associated technologies to determine stakeholder concerns, risks and issues
  • Professionally consult the client architects and service owners with documentation, guidelines, how-to’s and governance for the new network design and present them to the client for a signoff
  • Consult on and steer the supplier hand-over (supplier is changing throughout the assignment). Produce documentation as and if demanded by the client stakeholders for this.
  • Identify topics (agreed by the client) to advertise and promote with articles, blogs, videos in the ourConnectivity blog. Create the articles, blogs, videos and publish in the ourConnectivity after the client gives the sign off.
  • Interface with the client’s License Management and provide requested deliverables which includes answering the questions if the project gets audited
  • Provide the audit team with the necessary information/data during the audit process.
  • Steer members of the security team within the project to achieve the agreed goal of a zero-trust and micro-segmented Azure network.
  • Create an overview of the applications and services which have migrated from the old architectural design into the new and present it to the client
  • Document meetings and subsequently define milestones to satisfy the requirements. This includes filled-in questionnaires, network diagrams, minutes, and specifications.
  • Steer project workstreams in compliance with defined project roadmap including adherence to defined budgetary requirements in the given timescales and satisfaction of the documented requirements as approved by the Project Steering Committee (PSC).
  • Identify deviations to budget / project roadmap & raise them to PSC by providing suitable measures for project to re-comply with project plan or potential re-evaluation of pre-defined project framework. PSC will sign off proposed measures. Manage the completion of the measures which includes the implementation and steering.
  • Organize a monthly project status update meeting with the Programme Manager and Chief Architect:
  • Professionally consult the Programme Manager, Chief Architect and the Project Team to check if the client IT- and Connectivity Strategy documents are understood and the Project Team’s activities are in line with the client’s priorities and the general IT and Connectivity strategy.
  • Professionally consult on updates and changes with the Programme Manager and Chief Architect, align alternative deployments and mitigation measures in case of delays of hardware or the availability of local resources of the supplier at certain sites.
  • Presentation of project status to senior management within the project steering committee (PSC): by indicating agreed goals, status reporting, milestone information, change management, major risks and issues and budget information. Use the Microsoft Office suite for documentation and the internal POT tool.
  • Develop options to resolve ongoing issues and present in PowerPoint slides to the PSC in order for a decision to be agreed.
  • Define these information during meetings with the (external) IT partners assigned to deliver the technical changes. The IT partners could include DTBS, DXC, Microsoft, and local companies (as defined by the site’s facility management team or local IT coordinator).
  • Control the assigned project budget by actively tracking spend against the allocated budget taking information shared by the financial controlling team (receipt of invoices) and reporting on budget tracking into consideration and indicate potential measures in case of under- or overrun by use of spreadsheets, PowerBI and presentations. The client will sign off measures to be initiated.
  • Actively track project roadmap against actual project development and share with the PSC, adhering to the IT- and Connectivity strategy.
  • Develop the roadmap and project plans in conjunction with the external technical experts, architects and 3rd party providers (if appropriate). Store the planning and roadmap in the appropriate tools (Azure DevOps, MS Project), either online or in a collaboration tool such as Teams. Prepare excerpts (in PowerPoint or as JPGs) to be shared with a wider audience.
  • If significant deviation from the plan is anticipated, develop & define options, present them to the PSC for sign off.
  • Act clearly as an external resource towards the client as well as towards and external suppliers; any contractual changes and all administrative tasks towards 3rd party suppliers other than the roll-out coordination will not be the responsibility of the consultant but of the appropriate units within the client.
